Dominic: (9:54 AM ET ) Hello, we will be getting started very soon. I just need to get a coffee..... Chat with Dominic Raynor..
Peter, Auckland, New Zealand: Maybe you can help me Dominic...As a LFC supporter I am sick of the local Chelsea boys at my pub saying we won the Champions League with sheer luck...whats your view? You don't beat Leverkusen, Juventus, Chelsea and Milan with sheer luck! Oh and nevermind the Buzzcocks, Gaizka should get into the Sex Pistols and The Clash - real punkrock! Not that northern rubbish!
Dominic: (10:03 AM ET ) Hi Peter, Rafa Benitez's experiences in the Champions League as Valencia manager surely helped but there is no denying that Liverpool also had a huge slice of luck on their side.
Having said that, they won it and nobody can deny Liverpool are European Champions - fans from other teams wouldn't deny themselves a similar slice of luck.
Ian, Birmingham, Ala.: As a long suffering Newcastle supporter, it looks like better times are just around the corner. Do you share my optimism that they could push for a top four place by season's end? Most of their injury problems have cleared up and they have the makings of a strong side. Of course, the real proof will be when then they play someone half decent.
Dominic: (10:08 AM ET ) I would agree with you that things can only get better for Newcastle. The start to the season was so bad that it could not really get any worse.
The victory at West Brom last weekend was a turning point. Owen scored twice, Emre returned and some of the other injured players - such as Lee Bowyer and Albert Luque - should return after the international break.
Dominic: (10:14 AM ET ) Hi Meekaeel, I think the Aussies can do it for three reasons. Firstly, the initial leg is away in Montevideo this time around and if they can hold on there they have great chance to turn it around in Australia.
Secondly, manager Guus Hiddink is adept at extracting every ounce of potential from a football team (see his exploits with South Korea) and he will have the Socceroos ready.
And finally, the painful memory of elimination four years ago will be fresh in the players' minds. They will do everything they can to not go through that again.
Dominic: (10:19 AM ET ) Hi Sanjeev. This is an interesting question and if you had asked anybody last season they would have invariably said Robben.
However, Robben has not performed even half as well as he did last year, whilst Van Persie has really progressed as a striker at Arsenal and is winning rave reviews.
Akshat Prasad, Singapore: If Fergie does leave, or is somehow fired, who do you think can replace his gigantic boots? Cappelo perhaps? Martin O'Neill?
Dominic: (10:25 AM ET ) Hi Akshat. As you say, Martin O'Neill is the name that often crops up but he has left football to look after his wife so it would be doubtful he would return in the near future.
Ottmar Hitzfeld, on the other hand, is ready to return to football and the former Bayern munich manager has exactly the type of experience Old Trafford officials would be looking for - especially in the Champions League.
It would be good to see an English manager given a shot at one of the big clubs but until they can boast top level European experience it is unlikely that will happen.
Brad A. Oceanside, CA.: Hello Dominic....With all the bantering and obvious poor play Man U. has come upon, are there players you would get rid of, and if so who may they be? Thanks...
Dominic: (10:34 AM ET ) Hi Brad. It would be very difficult to get rid of anybody at the moment, given the injuries to regular first team players but lets get even more hyperthetical and assume replacements would be brought in.
Rio Ferdinand is out of form but he does have the ability to play well so I would keep him but relegate him to the bench. To sell him now would be madness, United would only get about £5m.
Mourinho then replied by saying he had a 120 page file on Wenger and his comments.......now I think that says it all as far as whom of the two has the obsession.
Dave, Upper Arlington USA: Dominic: As a Spurs fan, I am generally pleased with our play and table position given the schedule to date. Do you think Spurs can make a good run through the end of the year, and do you think that anything less than a Champions League spot is a disappointment at this point? Cheers!
Dominic: (10:49 AM ET ) Hello Dave. I think Spurs have the depth of squad to able to hold on to a European place this season but I am not sure about a Champions League spot.
Chelsea have top spot sewn up so that would mean Spurs would have to finish above Arsenal, Man Utd or Liverpool. I see Liverpool, as the potential team for Spurs to finish above but I would say both sides are equally matched.
I do not think that if Spurs miss out on the Champions League but make the Uefa Cup the season will be seen as a failure - especially as they have not been in Europe for six seasons.
Keith (Toronto, Canada): Who would be a player who in your mind should be getting an England call-up (but hasn't), and one that has, who should be dropped? Exclude the likes of the injured Downing, who would probably get a look-see if fit.
Dominic: (10:55 AM ET ) Hi Keith, I don't think a complete outsider will make it into the England squad for the 2006 World Cup but Jonathan Woodgate could be inline for a recall after a lengthy time out.
With Rio Ferdinand out of form and Sol Campbell's injury concerns Woody is being tipped for a recall against Argentina in November. I would also like to see Danny Murphy given a chance.
Chris, Buenos Aires, Argentina: As an Englishman living in Argentina and the England friendly with Argentina coming up. Who do you think will win in Switzerland? I need an English victory!
Dominic: (11:01 AM ET ) Hi Chris. I would love to see an England victory too, but I don't think Eriksson will take the game seriously enough for that to happen.
Pekerman will use the game to cast his eye over Argentina's European based players - who are generally their best - whilst Eriksson will waste the chance to get anyhting out of the game by neither testing his first eleven to the max of giving England's hopefuls a full run out.
Joel (Kingston, Jamaica): Your pick for World/European Player of the Year Dominic. For me it has to be (in this order) Lampard, Adriano, or Ronaldinho.
Dominic: (11:08 AM ET ) Hi Joel. Well the top names in the Soccernet office are Ronaldinho, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Eto'o and Ibrahimovic....but I would have to agree with former Soccernet columnist (and Nepal/India manager) Stephen Constantine and opt for Fernando Morientes.
Just kidding! Realistically I would have to be boring and say Ronaldinho. I would be willing to part with more cash to watch him play than any of the others.
