SEOUL, April 11 (Bernama) -- The number of new HIV/AIDS cases in South Korea reached 175 in the first months of the year, but the figure was down 8.9 per cent from a year ago, the nation's disease control agency said Wednesday.

The Korea Centre for Disease Control and Prevention said in its quarterly HIV/AIDS assessment report that 92.6 per cent of the new infections were found among males. Infections among foreigners stood at 18, South Korean Yonhap news agency reported.

The rate of condom use stood at 23 per cent in 2005, far lower than the 40 per cent to 60 per cent rate in other countries, according to the agency.
